Indoor had some great times too but not with the same rewards as marching band. Don't get me wrong, I love indoor, more then outdoor but the numerical end result differed from what we were used to outdoor. We always had crowd pleasing shows but the judge pleasing is what we never could get. I love our shows and would have never changed them just to win medals. I was always happy with the end result, just not the end numbers! Freshman year we had an Irish type show. It was quite simple even though it didn't simple like it at the time. Sophomore year brought us Michael and Susan and new ideas. We were hoping for some great stuff when we started our medeval-ish warrior girl, tree show that year but it ended up being the worse season of my four years. Michael and the new staff redemded themselves in 1999 for my junior year with "the snow show" Using "Sleigh Ride" and "Let It Snow" by Harry Connick Jr. they created a fun show with cute little blue dresses with fur trim! It was an awesome show complete with falling snow and probably the most remembered show of my time and probably the best ones with the judges but it still didn't get what we had hoped. Even today, this is the show people I meet that know KIDA remember, I say "little blue dresses" and they are like "and the snow angels (complete with the motions)" The snow angels were just a little thing we did at practice one time and Michael said to do it at the end of the show and people remember that!! And we only did it at championships!! That cracks me up every time. I'm torn on which show was my favorite; it was either the snow show or the show senior year, "Let the River Run" by Carly Simon from the movie Working Girl. This show demded us "the yellow girls" with Todd as we wore yellow tops and skirts with tule; a color not typical with guard uniforms. I wore it ALL senior year and has now sort of become Spring Grove Guard trademark! This was definetly our most emotional show. We thought we had done well at championships but I can say we were a bit more then upset with the placement that night, just ask any of us and our drumline, it was a rough night, many upset people, tears, and one angry busride home. And now, the US Postal Service has a commerical with "Let the River Run" as the background music... I cried the first time I saw it. 2001 brought a break for the Indoor Guard but they were still out there spinning with the Indoor Drumline where they won the White Division Championship in KIDA for the second time in 2 years. In 2002, the Spring Grove Indoor Guard returned in CIDA and had a great year. The guard placed second in the Liberty Conference with a 90.0. A very difficult day for the guard with a trip to the ER and performing with a hole. Wow, Apex's Championship was the same way! Next up for my girls is outdoor tryouts! See ya in May gals!!
